White House to Host Screening of ‘Selma’
Selma

Selma is coming to Capitol Hill.

Never mind the film’s recent Oscar snubs, the Commander in Chief has decided to host a special screening of the film just in time for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

According to USA TODAY, DuVernay, Oyelowo (who plays Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the film), and other Selma stars including Oprah Winfrey and Common are expected to be in attendance at this afternoon’s screenings. Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), who was beaten by police in the 1965 march and portrayed in the movie, is also expected to make an appearance.

Though the screening comes amidst outrage regarding the Oscar snubs, the White House claims that they have been planning the screening for a while.
