The White House and U.S. Capitol are on lockdown after an individual reportedly opened fire at the Capitol Visitors Center earlier this afternoon, reports CBNC.

According to officials, one officer was wounded, and the suspected shooter is in police custody.

Workers have been told to stay in place, and a statement from government officials is expected shortly. The story is still developing.
