Tyra Banks says shaving our hair pushes society towards pre-pubescence.
Recently supermodel-turned-entrepreneur, Tyra Banks gave her official stance on hair removal during an interview with ELLE.com. In addition to speaking about “vajarmpits” (armpits that look like vaginas), and mentioning her armpit crush (who is Katy Perry by the way) she explained the downside of shaving.
“I think that shaving in general being pushed upon us as women is not good,” she says. “I also think that it’s pushing us towards pre-pubescence. When girls haven’t reached puberty yet, they don’t have hair. I hope that this [issue] becomes popular.”
Although Banks admitted she doesn’t shave her legs, it begs the question, what age is too young to start shaving? Is Banks right? Does shaving push girls towards pre-pubescence? And, more importantly, should women follow sociality norms and shave at all?
