Wednesday marks the 2nd anniversary of the shooting of Trayvon Martin.
According to NBC, vigils are planned across the country to remember the slain Florida teen whose fatal shooting sparked outrage around the nation.
New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta are just some of the cities set to hold rallies in Martin’s honor. Participants are being asked to wear hooded sweatshirts and hold signs that read, “No More.”
Students at Bethune Cookman University in Florida plan to walk the campus wearing hoodies and to light candles in a memorial. They will also collect signatures for a petition to ask state legislators to abolish the Stand Your Ground law.
Trayvon’s parents, Sabrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, are aware of the vigils being planned around the country but plan to stay out of the spotlight.
Kim McCray, the Executive Director of the Trayvon Martin Foundation told The Grio that his parents “are very grateful to know that these things continue to take place. It’s a constant reminder to the parents that he will never be forgotton. So while there’s nothing official we are doing we are moved by our supporters.”
