Newly released footage shows a New Jersey police officer fatally shooting 36-year-old Jerame Reid, who had his hands in the air, on December 30, reports The New York Daily News

The police cruiser’s dashboard camera shows officers storming Reid’s car during a traffic stop in Bridgeton, NJ. One of the policemen, Officer Braheme Days, approaches the passenger side window where Reid is sitting and immediately recognizes him (Reid was arrested as a teen and served 13 years in prison for shooting at New Jersey state troopers). Days then demanded that Reid not “f—ing move” before calling out to his partner that there was a gun in the glove compartment.

“Hey Jerame, you reach for something, you’re going to be f—ing dead,” Officers Days threatened. “I’m telling you I’m going to shoot you.”

Reid responds, telling the officer that he has no reason to reach for anything and that he is going to exit the car and lay on the ground. Upon stepping out of the vehicle with his hands up in the air, Officer Days backs up and fires his gun, killing Reid.

Both Days and his partner are on leave while the Bridgeton Police Department investigate the case.
