Representation Matters: Twitter Users Break Down What ‘Black Panther’ Means To Them

We’re just days away from the journey to Wakanda and the release of Black Panther, the latest cinematic blockbuster from Marvel Studios. The film has already broken advance ticket sales records, and the first reviews have been impressive, with some arguing it’s one of the best superhero movies in a generation.

Starring Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o and Black Women In Hollywood nominee Danai Gurira, Black Panther transports viewers to the fictional African nation of Wakanda, which also happens to be the most technologically advanced society on Earth. After T’Challa (Boseman) becomes King following his father’s murder, he is tasked with keeping his kingdom safe while also getting justice for his father. The film, which was co-written and directed by Ryan Coogler,  is unlike anything we’ve ever seen on screen before and folks can’t wait for it to hit theaters.

Even before it’s release, the ladies behind Black Girl Nerds took to Twitter to ask fans to share #WhatBlackPantherMeansToMe — and the results were beautiful.

#WhatBlackPantherMeansToMe That I have lived long enough to see little black girls – dark skinned, natural hair, even bald– have these POWERFUL African women who are strong, beautiful & brilliant (in STEM at that) to look up to & buy toys & merch for. See themselves in 🙌🏾 pic.twitter.com/Am809VC79U
