But the Trump administration did go out of its way to call the bombing a "fake hate crime."
The Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington was bombed early Saturday before morning prayers. The bombing caused extensive damages, although no one was injured in the blast. Special Agent in Charge Rick Thornton of the FBI called the bombing a terrible crime and vowed to use every resource possible on the case to solve the crime.
Sebastian Gorka, deputy assistant to the President said the White House will remain silent about the attacked until the results of the investigation are finalized. He also inferred that the attack may have been a hoax orchestrated by the left.
Gorka told MSNBC, “When we have some kind of finalized investigation, absolutely. There’s a great rule; all initial reports are false, you have to check them you have to know who the perpetrators are. We’ve had a series of crimes committed, alleged hate crimes by right-wing individuals that actually turned out to have been propagated by the left. So let’s wait and see, lets allow the local authorities to provide their assessment and then the White House will make its comments.”
Minnesota Representative and Democratic National Committee deputy chairman Keith Ellison said it was an outrage that President Trump has yet to condemn the attack.
“The President’s failure to condemn the terrorist attack on the Bloomington Islamic Center is an outrage. It suggests that his oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, including the right to equal protection under the law, only extends to people who meet certain racial and religious criteria,” he said.
Ellison also wants Trump to condemn Gorka’s comments on the bombing.
President Trump is currently on a 17-day vacation at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J. However, he has been active on Twitter commenting on a wide variety of issues and topics including North Korea and tweets attacking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
