Since her arrest in the Atlanta airport a few days before Father’s day, Zonnique Pullins has remained mum on the incident that left her charged with carrying a weapon or long gun through security.

Now, the 20-year-old recently has told PEOPLE that the entire ordeal was merely an honest error on her part.

“I know that’s really irresponsible on my part, but it was really just an honest mistake,” the T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle star said. “I was at home, rushing to get to the airport, and I was throwing everything in my purse. The gun is really, really small. It looks like a toy gun. It was just at the bottom of my purse. When I went through security check, I was like ‘Oh I forgot it was in there.'”

Pullins, who is the biological daughter of Xscape singer Tameka “Tiny” Harris and the step-daughter of rapper Clifford “T.I.” Harris, was caught with a .380 Ruger semi-automatic pistol and thought she might have time to back up and put it in the car or even dispose of it, but it was too late. An officer apprehended her and that’s when Pullins phoned her mother for help.

“She called some police over and that’s when I thought, ‘Okay, it’s about to be serious.’ That’s when I called my mom and said, ‘I might have to go to jail tonight. Please help me.'”

Tiny spoke out about her daughter’s arrest explaining that the reason Pullins had the handgun was to feel protected no matter where she is.

“I just want her to be safe and feel safe at home by herself because if someone comes in or if something happens, she’s all alone, then what is she going to do?” she said.

Tiny legally purchased the gun for her daughter who was taught how to safely operate the firearm.
