Thandie Newton has signed on for NBC’s The Slap.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Newton will join the eight-episode mini-series centered on the family fallout that happens after a man slaps a misbehaving child at a family barbecue.
The small incident sparks a dispute that exposes secrets, prompts a lawsuit and ultimately tears the family apart.
Newton has been cast as Aisha; wife, doctor, mother of two children and organizer of the party that becomes the catalyst to the family drama.
Based on an Australian series, The Slap is penned by Jon Robin Baitz of The West Wing and Brothers & Sisters.
A premiere date for the mini-series has not yet been set.
