After protests and testimonies from education and civil rights leaders, Texas State Board of Education approved their conservative social studies curricula on Friday. The board voted for changing guidelines for elementary, middle and high school courses. The new standards are known as Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. However, there will be a direct reference to the election of President Obama, rather than what was originally recommended, not mentioning him by name. The Texas school system is the largest textbook purchasers in the nation, and thereby influences content for most social studies text. What do you think about the new changes?
