#TBT: Jay and Bey at the VMAs

With Beyoncé up for five new “moonmen” awards and Jay-Z’s close friend Kanye West set to receive the Video Vanguard award, the Carters will most likely make an appearance at the 2015 VMAs this Sunday. Although they’re not regulars, when they do show up, they bring the heat and the love. Here’s a look back at Jay and Bey at the VMAs.

Crazy Good

In 2003 Bey had just released her debut solo album Dangerously In Love and to celebrate her independence she turned up the heat for her back to back VMA performances of smash hits “Baby Boy” featuring Sean Paul and “Crazy In Love” featuring Jay-Z  (who joined his ladylove on the stage.)

Their performance was hot, hot, hot and proved to the MTV crowd that Jay and Bey were a force to be reckoned with and totally here to stay.

Standing Ovation

One thing we love about Jay and Bey is that they know the camera’s always watching. Even in their seats at the 2004 VMAs they were picture perfect.

Ring The Alarm

In 2006 after launching her performance from the ceiling as she glided down to the stage in a trench coat, Beyonce shed the coat and show and let Sasha Fierce takeover the stage.

Twinning

In 2007 Beyonce was nominated for Video of the Year for “Irreplaceable,” but ultimately she lost to Jay-Z and his then protégé Rihanna for their hit “Umbrella.”

Put A Ring On It

A year after she became Mrs. Carter, Beyoncé performed her smash hit “Put A Ring On It” on stage at the 2009 VMAs. The video for the song earned her nine nominations that year and three wins.

Make It Right

In 2009 Beyonce went home a big winner once again. (Note: This was also the year she interrupted one of her acceptance speeches to allow Taylor Swift to finish the one Kanye West interrupted years before when he insisted that Beyonce should have won.)

Big News

In 2011 Beyoncé brought a very special surprise date to the VMA red carpet — her beautiful baby bump! Twitter nearly shut down with #Beyhive buzz and congratulatory messages.

The singer followed up her announcement with an extra special performance of “Love on Top” at the 2011 MTV Music Awards. Her hubby couldn’t contain his joy!

In 2014, Jay-Z and Baby Blue Ivy joined Beyoncé at the VMAs where she performed a medley of all the hits from her record-breaking album, Beyoncé, and received the prestigious Vanguard Award.
