Tatyana Ali sheds tears over the Black Girls Rock Awards.
October has become a month of fabulousness!
After watching Michelle Obama jump rope for the Guinness World Record, Kelly Rowland cover our ‘Hot Hair’ Issue, and Phylicia Rashad take on first chair at Fordham — Black women everywhere are toting badges of honor.
The celebration continues at this year’s second annual Black Girls Rock Awards, set to honor Tatyana Ali, Angela Davis, Shirley Caesar, Taraji P. Henson, Imani Walker, and Malika Saada Saar.
“I think I shed some tears when I found out! It’s really phenomenal,” said Tatyana Ali to us today. “When I was younger there wasn’t anything like [Black Girls Rock] and I missed that. That would have been so useful to me as a little brown girl. It’s really touching to me to be apart of that, and hopefully for young girls, because I can totally remember being in their shoes.”
Black Girls Rock airs on November 6th on BET. We’ll be watching!
Keep the greatness coming, ladies!
