The best of 2008’s film and television were lauded Thursday with the announcement of the Screen Actor Guild nominations in Hollywood. Taraji P. Henson and Viola Davis both received nods for supporting actress and ensemble cast, for their critically acclaimed roles in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and “Doubt,” respectively.
Henson is also recognized for her ensemble work on the TV drama “Boston Legal.” “I am very excited and deeply honored to be nominated by my peers in the Screen Actors Guild,” Henson says in a statement to ESSENCE.com. “I am grateful to the talented writers who gave us the words. I give special thanks to the wonderful [director] David Fincher who guided Benjamin’s story.”
For outstanding performance by a female actor or actress in a television movie or miniseries, Phylicia Rashad is nominated for her moving work as matriarch Lena Younger in ABC’s “A Raisin in the Sun.” James Earl Jones will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his five-decades-long career on stage and screen.
The 15th Annual SAG Awards ceremony will air January 23, on TNT/TBS.
