The Supreme Court rejected an emergency appeal yesterday against President-elect Barack Obama’s eligibility to serve as the forty-fourth president because he allegedly had dual nationality when he was born, according to the Associated Press. The issue received public attention after conservative Alan Keyes filed suit and gained even more momentum when a lawsuit was followed through by New Jersey attorney Leo Donofrio, who insisted that Obama’s Hawaiian birth certificate was fake. He also claimed Obama is not a “natural born” citizen as required by the Constitution and should not be able to serve as president.
A minimum of four justices agreed that this case had little merit. However, there is another lawsuit pending which asserts that Obama is an Indonesian citizen since he attended school there when he was a boy.
