Strands: No Cut Required

Strands: No Cut Required
By · August 27, 2008October 30, 2020
01
The Premier Ponytail

(Top) Kimble pulled Beauvais-Nilon’s hair into a ponytail, but she shaped the height of the original crown (Bottom) into a full pompadour. To re-create this look, Kimble suggests you set your hair with hot rollers. Secure the ponytail, but leave the front loose from hairline to crown. Back-comb the loose hair (hold it tightly and comb from the ends to the root). Pull that hair back and secure with small hairpins. If you need to add length, try an add-on ponytail.

The Bombshell Bob
(Below) Although Beauvais-Nilon’s hair has minimal layers, Kimble was able to punch them up with a roller set. After Kimble removed the rollers, she back-combed the hair with a fine-tooth comb for fullness and height.

The Lush Bob

Gibson prepped Parker’s naturally fine hair with his Ted Gibson Hair Sheet for Styling, which defrizzes and adds shine. After blow-drying, he curled her hair with a medium-barrel curling iron to create soft waves. Gibson used pin curls to hold hair in place, a technique that adds definition and allows the look to set as it cools. After removing the clips, Gibson finger-combed Parker’s hair to create fullness. The heavy fringe is swept to the side for a look that’s sophisticated and sexy.

The Sultry Shag
To transform this luscious bob into a modern shag, Gibson left Parker’s hair loose along the hairline—the bangs, lengthy strands on each side, and the hair along the nape. He applied a lightweight styling pomade to the ends for a little separation, then gathered the rest of the hair to form a tight French twist. He added hairpins to anchor the style and used a shine serum to smooth out strands and prevent flyaways.

A Beautiful Bang

For this look, Yusef relied on the art of illusion. Taking Michele’s hair from ear to ear, he tucked it away at the nape and used hairpins to secure it. Yusef then applied a control paste to help mold the hair into its bob shape without weighing it down. Finally, he straightened her sweeping bangs with a flat iron.

The Fresh Flip
With a nod to old Hollywood, Yusef went retro with this evening look (right). He added texture to Michele’s sleek strands with soft face-framing waves. To start, he applied a drop of shine serum to fight frizz and give some sheen. Then he used a large-barrel curling iron to create a slight bend along the ends of her long strands. A final spritz of styling spray sealed the do.
