Today’s topic: Long Term Affair
I am a 45-year-old female. I’ve been married for 17 years. I had an affair with a man 20 years my senior when I was 37; it lasted until I was 42. I had not spoken with him since. He passed away in November. I got a call from his attorney. He left his home to me with a free and clear title. There is no way I would ever consider living there. The home appraised at $780,000 in today’s market. This man has an adult child who is one year older than me. She thinks I should do the right thing and return the home to her or her mother, which is his ex-wife. I am considering selling. I am not sure how I would explain this lump sum of money in my personal account if my husband found out about it. Am I wrong for wanting to keep this gift?
