Cinephiles, fans and even people unfamiliar with his work should take the chance to see the Sidney Poitier retrospective at the Museum of Moving Image that begins this weekend.
Poitier is a film icon who has overcome many barriers in Hollywood to become one of the most recognized actors in history. The museum, located in Astoria, Queens, will feature a 9-film series including: Paris Blues, A Raisin in the Sun, In the Heat of the Night and The Defiant Ones, for which he earned an Oscar nomination. That made him the first male actor of African descent to be nominated in the leading actor category.
The retrospective will run from April 9 – 17. You can view the schedule and purchase tickets here.
