Talk about a study after our hearts. Who needs treadmills and gym memberships when a simple stroll through the mall will do, so says a new UK study which claims that the average woman burns up to 48,000 calories a year from shopping.
Every minute spent clamoring through the sales rack helps you burn up to five calories according to the study, which was commissioned by Skinny Cow Low-Fat Ice Creams. And if, like us, you ever have that burnout feeling after a day shopping it’s because you’ve been, well, exercising. 52% of the women polled said they were way more tired after a day of shopping than going to the gym.
Researchers also found that the average woman makes about 132 shopping trips a year, which equals up to 159 hours and 56 minutes of walking at a brisk pace.
This seems like the perfect opportunity for us to go burn some calories, recessionista style.
