Sherman Hemsley To Be Buried 3 Months After Death

Sherman Helmsley will finally be laid to rest three months after his death.

An El Paso, Texas judge named Flora Enchinton, self-proclaimed best friend of Hemsley, beneficiary over the star’s will, reports Fox News. The ruling concluded months of legal battles over his $50,000 estate.

As a result, Enchinton is moving forward with plans to have a military funeral for the Jeffersons and Amen star. “It is taken care of,” said Enchinton. “They were bringing up untrue facts, and it was sad because Sherman had to suffer for it.”

Enchinton’s attorney Alexander Neil followed up, “My client is planning on a military funeral for Mr. Hemsley at Fort Bliss National Cemetery here in El Paso. Mr. Hemsley previously served in the United States Air Force (for four years) and thus, is eligible for a military funeral. At this present time, we are waiting for all the final orders to be entered by the court so the funeral plans can proceed.”

Enchinton went head-to-head with Richard Thorton, a man who claimed to be Hemsley’s brother. A judge ordered a DNA test to prove their relationship; however, Thorton submitted the results too late to be considered. The results did prove their brotherhood. Thorton reportedly has plans to appeal the judge’s decision.

Hemsley died of lung cancer in July and has been kept at an El Paso funeral home until a beneficiary could be named.
