Serena Williams finally beats out Maria Sharapova for title of highest paid female athlete.
Let’s recap Ms. Williams’ career, shall we? Over the course of her phenomenal career, Williams has won 21 Grand Slam titles, has earned the title of Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year four times, and appeared in Beyoncé’s Lemonade visual album.
The woman exudes #BlackGirlMagic.
And yet for 11 years in a row, Sharapova has outranked Williams as the world’s highest-paid female athlete, though Williams was better on the court, with a 19-2 record against Sharapova. To reiterate, Williams has slayed Sharapova in every match since 2005.
This feat is long over due and to be well celebrated.
Bumped down to second is Sharapova at $21.9 million with Rounda Rousey behind her ranking in third at $14 million.
Well done, Ms. Williams!
