Iowa state Senator Jack Hatch has apologized for saying leaders were treating him and Representative. Ako Abdul-Samad like the N-word in a conversation with Abdul-Samad, according to the Associated Press. Hatch,who is White, had used the word in a “masters and slaves” analogy when describing the revisions to an $8 million health care bill he helped to create. Abdul-Samad, who is Black, said that while he was offended by the comment, he is aware of the pressure lawmakers are under.—WLW
