GOP leaders in Sacramento have clearly crossed a line. After drawing criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike, they finally removed material from their official party Web site on Wednesday that compared the Chicago senator with Osama bin Laden and encouraged people to “Waterboard Barack Obama.” California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger publicly admonished party officials for allowing the offensive material to be posted, which included images of Obama wearing a turban and saying that “the only difference between Obama and Osama is BS.”
State Republican Party chairman Hector Barajas told Fox News, “This is a complete distraction from what we’re trying to do, and that’s elect John McCain and Sarah Palin as the next president and vice-president of the United States. These types of innuendos have absolutely no place in this election. This isn’t a thing we want out there.”
However, Barajas then went on to compare the tying of Obama to Muslim terrorists to the Democratic Party’s attempts of making race an issue in this election.
