It’s been a long time coming but Rihanna’s big-screen debut in ‘Battleship’ is only a few months away.  The red-hot pop-star recently dished on her role in the Peter Berg-directed film and why she chose the part.

Without any knowledge of the film or the aid of her manager, she said she first heard of the part in a very odd, but interesting pitch meeting with Berg.

“He was so sure that I could pull it off,” she told Ugo.com “And after I read the script I was really, really impressed and I wanted to be a part of it. Plus it was a role I felt like I could handle for the first time I’m acting.”

But just one little thing: the role required some pretty intense military training.  “This one man, Donald, he pretty much drilled me, yelled at me, cursed me, “Ow!” Made me do pushups,” she said.  “I really wanted to say, “Fu*k you” right back, but then he probably would have thrown me through the window! I was so scared I just stood there and looked at him like, ‘I swear I’m going to get it right, I swear, I swear, I swear I’ll be good.”

Yet, despite all the hard work involved, the singer’s pumped to try something outside her comfort zone in music. “I don’t even want to think about being on stage right now, It’s so different.,” she said. “This is a whole different perspective, I mean it seems the same, it’s not even the same as shooting a video. It really isn’t.
