On April 4, 2007, radio host Don Imus called the Rutgers University women’s basketball team “nappy headed hoes.” Immediately following the fire storm, Reverend Al Sharpton met with organizers to advocate Imus’s removal while also attacking hip-hop artists for their insensitive lyrics toward Black women. Two years later, the civil rights activist admits he was wrong for cornering hip-hop stars, according to BET.com. Sharpton wishes he could go back in time and start a dialogue with rappers instead of making his comments known to the media.—JW
