In this week’s TIME Magazine, ESSENCE’s senior writer Jeannine Amber explores how the George Zimmerman verdict will affect Black parents’ attempt to protect their sons against racial profiling.
“Certain events have a way of changing everything, reorganizing life into an unforgettable before and after,” writes Amber. “For black parents, the new demarcation between before and after was the moment we watched George Zimmerman walk free after being tried in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.”
Her story, entitled “The Talk,” describes the urgent conversation African American parents have with their sons on safety when in dangerous situations.
