President Obama is in Chicago today to urge doctors to support “wider insurance coverage and targeted federal spending cuts” during the American Medical Association’s annual meeting in his hometown, according to Associated Press. Doctors are divided over the President’s proposal to reshape the health care system, which includes heavy spending to cover almost 50 million Americans without health insurance. The White House wants $200 billion cut from federal hospital payments and $313 billion from Medicare and Medicaid to help cover the costs. The President plans to tell the doctors “it is not acceptable for the nation to leave so many without insurance.”—Shavon S. Greene
