Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee hosted a dramatic hearing that could decide whether or not federal judge, Brett Kavanaugh, will be appointed to the highest court in the land. After Dr. Christine Blasey Ford came forward to accuse Kavanaugh of attempting to rape her when the pair were in high school in 1982, the Judiciary Committee allowed both parties to testify before Congress. As the nation tuned in to watch things unfold and hear the testimonies—which dominated the conversation on social media—several notable celebrities used their platforms to chime in on the subject. Outspoken thought leaders in the entertainment space like Ava DuVernay, Shonda Rhimes and John Legend registered their discontent with the proceedings, while others who don’t always speak up on such partisan issues, shared their opinion as well. Legend, who has never held back about his views on hot-button political issues, kept his stance on the matter very simple: he believes Dr. Ford. Songstress and actress Kelly Rowland agreed, questioning Kavanaugh’s sincerity. Meanwhile, Rhimes, DuVernay, and others called for senators to vote against the Supreme Court nominee. Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross also weighed in, demanding that Kavanaugh withdraw his name from the nomination process. While it remains to be seen if Kavanaugh will indeed make it onto the Supreme Court, the White House has called for an FBI investigation into Dr. Ford’s troubling charges. TOPICS:
