Mariah Carey was spotted out in New York City Tuesday for the first time since husband Nick Cannon revealed that the two have been “living in separate houses for a few months” last week.
Carey, 45, still resides at the couple’s Manhattan apartment with their 3-year-old twins while Cannon, 33, is said to be staying in hotels.
People Magazine reports that career issues may have contributed to the tension to their six-year marriage, referencing poor album sales from her latest project Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse.
“When things don’t go well career-wise, sometimes you turn on your other half,” a source told PEOPLE. Another source adds that a breakup could be messy because “there’s a lot to fight about.”
