Say it ain’t so! The fate of everyone’s favorite pint-sized doctor is up in the air.
Yahoo reports that it is unclear whether Disney Junior’s popular show Doc McStuffins will be renewed for a fifth season.
The show follows a Black toddler who dreams of one day being a doctor. She offers medical care to her stuffed animal friends (and has captured the hearts of America in the process).
Despite the fact that the show has brought in more than $500 million in sales and is the only program on the network with a Black lead character, Disney Junior has not yet renewed the show.
Understandably, parents are outraged at the network’s actions and have launched a #RenewDocMcStuffins hashtag on Twitter.
No other show features a young black girl as a doctor. That kind of representation is incredibly important. #RenewDocMcStuffins— Brandon Evers (@BrandonEvrs) July 2, 2016
#RenewDocMcStuffins because she helps little black girls all over realize they are smart, beautiful, and able! Representation matters.— Queen. (@donnamarieee_) July 2, 2016
#RenewDocMcStuffins because it's important for OUR children to see that they can be ANYTHING they want to be ✊🏾✨— Hope (@TheHopeAlyssa) July 2, 2016
#RenewDocMcStuffins It's the reason my 2 y/o daughter could say stethoscope, otoscope, & sphygmomanometer. I still can't say the last 1.— W. Kamau Bell (@wkamaubell) July 2, 2016
