OWN has announced a special upcoming episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life that will focus on the ongoing community unrest in Ferguson, Missouri in the wake of the shooting death of unarmed teen Michael Brown.
The episode, “Iyanla: Fix My Life – Special Report: Healing In Ferguson” will air next week and feature host Iyanla Vanzant speaking with protestors and community leaders and hosting a sit-down between local police chief Thomas Jackson and Brown’s uncle, pastor Charles Ewing.
Vanzant has embedded herself within the local community over the last week and has spoken out publicly in a CNN interview about her hopes to help community members and officials work toward “peaceful change” and forgiveness.
Not all supporters feel the timing of her show is appropriate. After OWN tweeted details about the upcoming episode, many viewers lashed out in response, calling Vanzant an “opportunist” and questioning the motives of the network and crew.
Do you plan to tune in? Do you feel it’s too soon to publicize a sit-down between Brown’s family members and local officials? Or do you think it’s a positive step toward change? Share your thoughts below.
The episode will air on Tuesday, August 26 at 9p.m. EST on OWN.
