Talk-show host Oprah Winfrey is notorious for stepping to the plate in any crisis. Last Friday, Columbia University presented her with a leadership award, given by the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership. The institution says that Winfrey is the best candidate because of her philanthropy in education and promotion of reading, according to the Associated Press. The media giant received the award in Chicago. The center highlighted Oprah’s Angel Network, which helped open 60 schools in 13 countries, while her foundation has funded hundreds of scholarships and grants.—JW
