Oprah Winfrey received an Academy Award honor over the weekend.
Oprah Winfrey was honored along with legendary actor James Earl Jones and makeup artist Dick Smith by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this weekend at the third annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles.
Ultimately touched by the honor, Winfrey shed a few tears while accepting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. “It’s impossible for you to even know what this journey has meant,” Winfrey said according to the Huffington Post.
“To receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award means more to me than any film, any acclaim, even an Oscar, because what it says is you all get it. What this really means is that you all understand what I’ve been trying to do, what I’ve been trying to say all these years, (which) is that all of us can make a difference through the life that we live.”
The OWN creator, was introduced by Maria Shriver, John Travolta, Quincy Jones, and a student whose education she funded.
Oprah deserves this award for all of her hard work and humanitarian efforts that have changed the globe — from right here at home to foreign places like South Africa.
