Spencer stopped by Anderson Cooper today and said she was chosen over Queen Latifah, Mo’Nique and Jennifer Hudson for the supporting role of Minny Jackson. Cooper asked, “There were a lot of big names who were out there and being considered for this role. How did you get this role?” She replied with a chuckle, “I slept with the producer.” But ultimately revealed she had known the director, Tate Taylor, for over 17 years and that they originally met as production assistants.

Taylor introduced Spencer to the author of “The Help” eight years ago. “It was a crazy setting,” she said. “I don’t like to be hot, hungry or uncomfortable, and I was 100 pounds heavier, it was 108 degrees in New Orleans… Tate decided that we should take a walking tour, and I was very grumpy, and Minny was born.”

Thankfully, Spencer’s grumpy ways gave her the opportunity of a lifetime!
