President Barack Obama is scheduled to address the 43rd annual Congressional Black Caucus Awards Dinner this weekend.
The president will attend the Phoenix Awards Dinner during the four-day conference, where influential figures will discuss the effects of public policies on African-American communities in the United States and overseas.
“It is an honor and privilege to have alumni CBC member President Barack Obama address this year’s Phoenix Awards Dinner,” said Congressional Black Caucus Foundation board chair Chaka Fattah. “His remarks will be a fitting culmination of the 2013 Annual Legislative Conference.”
The dinner, themed the “Spirit of 1963,” will pay tribute to the Civil Rights Movement and pivotal events like the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
The night’s honorees will include former President William Jefferson Clinton, U.S. representative Elijah E. Cummings and former president of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Elaine Jones.
