NYPD Cop Allegedly Puts Pregnant Woman in Chokehold
Released by People Organizing and Working for Empowerment and Respect

Just two weeks after the shocking footage of New Yorker Eric Garner’s death after being placed in a chokehold by a NYPD cop, new photos show a pregnant woman being manhandled in a similar manner by an NYPD officer.

Photos snapped by a bystander show 27-year-old Brooklyn resident Rosan Miller, who is 7 months pregnant, being placed in what appears to be a chokehold by an NYPD cop during a dispute over illegal grilling. The officer can be seen with his arm around Miller’s neck, all while her young daughter watches in the background. Luckily, Miller was uninjured.

The incident started because Miller was grilling on the public sidewalk, which is a violation of local law.

Miller, her husband and her brother, were all placed in custody, with charges ranging from harassment and disorderly conduct to resisting arrest and obstruction of justice, reports the New York Daily News.

Former city councilman Charles Barron got involved in Miller’s release and expressed his disgust over the situation. “This was all over a grill,” said Barron. His organization, People Organizing and Working for Empowerment and Respect, released the images to the public.

In a press conference, Barron spoke on the effects of the incident. “The community is traumatized,” he said. “The young lady and her daughter are traumatized, and all for what? Barbecuing?”
