Police are investigating an incident in New York City on Tuesday afternoon that has left several people injured, with multiple casualties reported.
The NYPD has issued a statement via the official @NYPDNews Twitter page, revealing what details are avaiable thus far.
“Earlier a vehicle entered the West St. pedestrian/bike path a few blocks north of Chambers St,” the tweets read. “The vehicle struck multiple people on the path. There are several fatalities and numerous people injured. The vehicle continued south striking another vehicle. The suspect exited the vehicle displaying imitation firearms & was shot by NYPD. The suspect is in custody. This is preliminary, more information to follow.”
The situation reportedly unfolded near the Chambers Street and West Side Highway area of Lower Manhattan.
NBC initially reported that multiple individuals had suffered gunshot injuries as a result of the incident, however, that information has not yet been confirmed by the NYPD.
