Big Apple mayor Michael Bloomberg recently named Diahann Billings-Burford, a Black woman, as the nation’s first-ever municipal Chief Service Officer, according to The City of New York. This appointment is part of the city’s initiative to promote a new era of service and volunteerism in New York City. The former middle-school teacher has also worked as a curriculum developer and a corporate attorney. A graduate of Yale University, the Brooklyn native also holds a law degree from Columbia University.—BB
