After NFL running back DeAngelo Williams’ mother, Sandra Hill, died of breast cancer at age 53 last year, he knew he wanted to do something positive to raise awareness.

This year, Williams is using non-profit organization The DeAngelo Williams Foundation to cover the cost of 53 mammograms at hospitals in Charlotte, North Carolina and Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers football player has been a proud, long-time supporter of breast cancer awareness. In 2009, before losing four of his aunts to the disease, Williams pushed for NFL teams to wear pink throughout the season in honor of breast cancer awareness. However, his request was denied due to the NFL uniform policy.

Recently, he shared this to his Twitter:

This is dedicated to my mom, my aunts & women everywhere affected by Breast Cancer. I love you. #WeAreInThisTogether https://t.co/bAwaanlfzV
