A residents in a Houston-area apartment complex reportedly heard the faint cry of a newborn baby as he was throwing out his trash. The cry was coming from inside an abandoned clothes dryer. The little girl, who was wrapped in a trash bag and still had her umbilical cord attached, was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital and found to be in good condition at 20 inches long and 6 pounds and 12 ounces, according to the Houston Chronicle. A judge ruled that child welfare officials would be granted emergency custody. Child welfare authorities and Houston police are currently investigating and looking for the mother or relatives of the African-American baby nicknamed Mia.—WLW
