Technology can be a beautiful thing and one mom recently received the early mother’s day gift of a lifetime thanks to a $15,000 electronic miracle.
12-year-old Virginia resident Christopher Ward Jr. has been legally blind for his entire life after being born with an incurable vision-impairing condition known as Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. While the condition does allow for him to have limited light perception in both eyes, Christopher’s mother Marquita Hackley told ABC News that doing everyday things like watching his favorite TV shows or learning to read have been nearly impossible for her son.
The two recently took a trip to Washington, D.C., where they were invited to try out a new wearable device called eSight that allowed Christopher to see his mother’s face for the very first time. “I saw my mom, and she was very pretty,” he said, as mom Marquita wiped tears of joy from her eyes.
The eSight headset carries a hefty price tag of $15,000 that’s not covered by Marquita’s insurance, but she’s hopeful that fundraising efforts will help aid in the process of giving her son the priceless gift of sight.
