South African President Jacob Zuma released a statement on Sunday saying Nelson Mandela was released from the hospital after 12 weeks. The 95-year-old former President and anti-apartheid activist remains in critical condition but returned to his Johannesburg home for continued treatment.
“His home has been reconfigured to allow him to receive intensive care there,” reads the statement. “The health care personnel providing care at his home are the very same who provided care to him in hospital.”
Mandela was admitted to the hospital on June 8.
