Top Contender

“Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire” is a top contender at the NAACP Image Awards this year. The groundbreaking film received nominations in multiple categories including Outstanding Motion Picture, Actress, Supporting Actress and Actor, Director and Screenplay.

Co-Host and Esteemed Nominee

Along with sharing co-hosting duties with Hill Harper, Anika Noni Rose is nominated in multiple categories. For her role in “The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency,” she earned a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress. The “Princess and the Frog” star is also up for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture. The animated film will compete in the Motion Picture category as well.

Actor, Author and Co-Host

This year’s NAACP Image Awards should be quite a thrill for Hill Harper. The actor/author will serve as co-host alongside Anika Noni Rose and is also nominated in two categories – Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series (“CSI: NY”) and Outstanding Literary Work (“The Conversation: How Black Men & Women Can Build Loving, Trusting Relationships”)

Star-on-the-Rise

Young starlet KeKe Palmer nabbed two NAACP Image Award nominations this year. Not only did her series, “True Jackson: VP,” receive a nomination for Outstanding Children’s Program, but she also earned a nod for Outstanding Performance in a Youth/Children’s Program.

The Real Thing

Vanessa Williams continues to thrive! The multi-talented performer has been nominated, once again, for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Wilhelmina Slater on “Ugly Betty.” She also nabbed a nod for Outstanding Jazz Album for her latest recording, “The Real Thing.”

Comeback King

After an eight-year hiatus, Maxwell swept fans off their feet with his latest album, “BLACKsummers’ Night.” For his efforts, he earned four Image Award nominations including Outstanding Album, Outstanding Male Artist as well as Outstanding Song and Music Video for his first single, “Pretty Wings.”

Pint-Sized Powerhouse

We were thrilled when Jada Pinkett-Smith returned to television as star and executive producer of “HarthoRNe.” The TNT drama, which returns for a second season this summer, has been nominated in the Outstanding Drama Series category. Pinkett-Smith is also up for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.

New York’s Finest

Though they both earned nominations for their solo work, Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ monster hit, “Empire State of Mind” remains a stand-out. The duo has been nominated for Outstanding Song as well as Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration.

LL, the Actor

As star of NBC’s hit series, “NCIS: Los Angeles,” LL Cool J has earned a nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.

In Memoriam

Our hearts are still quite heavy about the untimely passing of author E. Lynn Harris. It’s only fitting that the NAACP would honor him with a posthumous nomination for Outstanding LIterary Work for his novel, “Basketball Jones.”
