Today, an emotional Wendy Williams recalled her own struggles with addiction while paying her respects to Whitney Houston.
Though they had never met in person, Williams tearfully admits that she felt a bond with Houston, partially because of their history with drugs. “Whitney and I, same age, and both plagued with the demon of substance abuse,” she says, adding that it’s been almost 15 years since she last smoked from a crack pipe.
“I just thought we would meet and we would hug and we’d be sober and older.”
The only time the talk show host ever got to interview Houston was on her now defunct radio show in 2003 where they famously squabbled over allegations of Houston’s drug abuse. Despite their issues, Williams adds, “She’s my Jersey girl… she’s a woman like me.”
