The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards festivites are underway and a few of the courageous Black women who lost their children to police brutality and gun violence joined entertainment’s most influential superstar to make a powerful statement on one of music’s biggest nights.

Arriving early with an entourage of stunning Black women at her side, Beyonce made her way into NYC’s Madison Square Garden and onto the red carpet amid hundreds of fans, media and photographers as an adorable Blue Ivy clutched her hand.

The 2016 VMAs Red Carpet Was Epic And We’ve Got the Receipts!

Among the handful of women in the mix with Mrs. Carter were Trayvon Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton, Mike Brown’s mother Lezley McSpadden, Eric Garner’s mother Gwen Carr and Oscar Grant’s mother Wanda Johnson, who represent four of the many women from the Mothers Of The Movement organization. The group was formed to advocate for an end to gun violence and police brutality.

The brave mothers posed for a powerful photo alongside Beyonce and several other young starlets including model Winnie Harlow, actress Quavenzhane Wallis, mutli-talented singing duo Chloe and Halle and rapper Ingrid.

Noticeably absent from the Mothers of the Movement group for the second high-profile public appearance this year was Tamir Rice’s mother Samira Rice. Ms. Rice has been openly critical of the handling of the fight against police brutality by the U.S. government and the Obama Administration and has in turn declined several public appearances this year, including the Democratic National Convention in July.

Salute to the Mothers of the Movement and Beyonce for this moving display of unity at the VMAs.
