Charles Bothuell discovered that his missing son is alive during a live taping of the Nancy Grace show.
An 11-day search for missing Detroit boy Charlie Bothuell has come to an end after police found him alive in his father’s basement, reports Click on Detroit.
The 12 year olds father, Charles Bothuell IV, found out the baffling news during a live interview with Nancy Grace. Bothuell appeared stunned as Grace told him the news.
Grace asked how Bothuell could have missed his son, to which he replied, “I’ve been down there several times—we’ve all been checking.” Bothuell said he and his wife had checked and so had the FBI and Detroit Police Department.
Police Chief James Craig said that the police had been inside the home with cadaver dogs but wasn’t sure how they could’ve missed Charlie. “We’re not certain at all,” said Craig. “Because the question I would ask is how could we miss [him]?”
Craig added that Charlie was found crouching behind a barricade of boxes in the basement. “He was nervous but excited, and glad to see police,” he said, adding that it seemed unlikely Charlie could have built the barricade himself.
Bothuell underwent a lie-detector test by the FBI but the results were inconclusive. Police spokeswoman Jennifer Moreno says that at this point no criminal charges are being pursued but they are currently regrouping and refocusing the investigation.
