Toccara models spring looks from Tina Knowles’ successful line, Miss Tina — one fashion label, 21 sizes! — for Walmart.
TOCCARA: So, Miss Tina, you have your own line in Walmart. It’s fabulous. Everything is under $20, right?
MISS TINA: Yes! I’ve always wanted to provide fashionable pieces at a manageable price. The line was initially on the Home Shopping Network. I loved it but it wasn’t as affordable.
TOCCARA: It’s amazing to have plus sizes at that price.
MISS TINA: We go from size 0 to 20. And what makes the line special is that we don’t just grade up with the sizing. We make a new pattern for the large sizes and work with the plus-size fit models. It makes a big difference.
TOCCARA: Did your love for fashion start when you designed for Destiny’s Child?
MISS TINA: No. My mother, Agnes Dereon Beyince, was a seamstress and designer, and her passion passed down to me. In high school I had a singing group and I designed the outfits and made my friends’ prom dresses.
TOCCARA: Does Beyonce ever give you design advice?
MISS TINA: Yes. She suggested we do the jumpsuit you’re wearing (in opening photo) in a silky fabric instead of stretch and it’s great. Solange gives me ideas, too. Their input gives the line a youthful twist, so it appeals to moms and daughters.
TOCCARA: What do you love about your line?
MISS TINA: The casual and dressy items are very versatile — many can go from day to evening. We feature beautiful colors and prints, but we also have classic black. There is something for everyone.
