Michael Steele: Challenges Fellow Republicans on Racist Obama Song

Republican leader Chip Saltsman’s Christmas gift of the recorded song “Barack the Magic Negro” continues to receive backlash, including from members inside the party. Prominent Black republican Michael Steele released a statement acknowledging Saltman’s work in the party and admonishing those like the Tennessee politician who create division as the party seeks to include greater diversity. “We must be mindful that self-inflicted wounds not only distract us from regaining our strength as a Party, but further diminish our credibility with an increasingly diverse community of voters,” says Steele, who is running for RNC chairman.  “As RNC Chairman, I want us to be a lot smarter about such things and more appreciative that our actions always speak louder than our words.”
