New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin arrived in Cuba late Friday, October 16 to talk to Cuban experts about how to better deal with weather disasters and storms, according to CNN.
During his visit, Nagin plans to meet with several officials, including some from the Latin American Medical Centers for Disaster and the Cuba Defense Committee.
Nagin is the first New Orleans mayor to make an official visit to Cuba in 50 years. He had to receive permission from the State Department in order to make the trip. He’ll return to New Orleans on Thursday. The mayor of Galveston, Texas, another city hit hard by hurricanes, made the same fact finding trip to Cuba last year.-WLW
