The case of Florida mom Marissa Alexander has prompted the state to include warning shots in their controversial ‘Stand Your Ground’ law.
According to ABC News, the change was signed into law Friday by Gov. Rick Scott and was partly inspired by Alexander, 33, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison after firing a shot during a dispute with her allegedly abusive husband. An appellate court later overturned the conviction and ordered a retrial.
“We are of course grateful for the governor’s actions,” said Alexander’s legal team.
Alexander is currently awaiting a retrial.
