As the days continue to roll by, more celebrities are making public statements regarding their involvement with Libyan leader Moammar Qaddafi and his family. Yesterday, Beyonce said she donated her $1-million fee to charity, and today Mariah Carey says she’s “embarrassed to have participated in this mess…”
According to FOX News, Carey performed for the family in St. Bart’s in 2008 and says she didn’t exactly know for whom she was performing. “I was naive and unaware of who I was booked to perform for… I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess. Going forward, this is a lesson for all artists to learn from. We need to be more aware and take more responsibility regardless of who books our shows. Ultimately, we as artists are to be held accountable,” said Carey.
Just days ago, Nelly Furtado announced she was going to give away her $1 million to charity. We’ve yet to hear what 50 Cent will do with his cash.
What is a celebrity to do? Especially if they’ve already spent the money… this is a mess that will take years to untangle and will undoubtedly harm a few careers if not handled with care. Best of luck to everyone involved.
